Virginia Apgar was an Armenian-American obstetrical anesthesiologist, best known as the inventor of the Apgar score, a way to quickly assess the health of a newborn child immediately after birth.The techniques is still widely used in hospitals of US.She was an expert in the fields of anesthesiology and teratology.She was born on June 7, 1909
Westfield, New Jersey,US.She is known for her contributions to the book, “Is My Baby All Right? A Guide to Birth Defects”, written with Joan Beck. The books explains very well the causes of birth defects and its treatment.She died on 7 August, 1974.
